Valorant name rules
Your Valorant name is your Riot ID: a game name of 3 to 16 characters plus a tagline (the part after #) of 3 to 5 characters. You can change your Riot ID from your Riot account settings once every 30 days. Offensive names can be reset by Riot.
Tips
Agent puns and jokes about common Valorant moments (whiffing, eco rounds, flashing your own team) are the safest way to be funny. Keep names clean — Riot actively resets offensive Riot IDs.
Why Valorant players love funny names
Valorant matches are tense. A funny Riot ID can break that tension, make your team laugh after a lost round and even distract an opponent for a second. Agent puns are especially popular because every player recognises them, and jokes about common moments — whiffing an easy shot, saving the Sage ult for yourself, forgetting to plant — are instantly relatable.
Using your tagline creatively
Your Riot ID has two parts: the game name and the tagline after the #. Many players use the tagline for a joke or a short code: WhiffMaster#oops, SageMainSorry#heal, EcoRoundHero#pist. The tagline must be 3 to 5 characters, so keep it short.
Names that work in competitive
If you play ranked or tournaments, you may prefer a cleaner name. A good compromise is a short serious name with a funny tagline, like PeekKing#lol, so you look focused on the scoreboard while still showing personality.
How to change your Riot ID
Log in to your Riot account on the Riot website, open the Riot ID section, type a new game name and tagline, and save. The change applies to Valorant and other Riot games. Because you can only change it once every 30 days, test how it looks before saving.
