What makes a username anonymous
An anonymous username contains no personal information: no real name, initials, birth year, school, city or job. It also should not match the usernames you use elsewhere, because people can search one handle and find your other accounts. Neutral word pairs like greysignal or quietharbor are ideal.
Where anonymous usernames matter
Anonymity is useful on Reddit, forums, support communities, review sites and games where you chat with strangers. It also helps if you want to keep a hobby separate from your professional profile. Reddit usernames cannot be changed later, so choose an anonymous one from the start.
Tips for staying anonymous
Use a separate email address for anonymous accounts. Do not upload photos that show your face, house or school. Avoid mentioning details that, combined, could identify you. If you add a number, pick a random one instead of a birthday.
Generate a random anonymous name
Random word pairs are naturally anonymous because they have nothing to do with you. The free random username generator below creates neutral combinations you can use on most platforms.
